I run an online politics and news blog, and one of the major ways that I generate revenue from it is by way of advertising dollars. Unfortunately, if your website does not get any hits, there are no advertisers that are going to want to pay to have their name associated with your site. This is the primary problem with getting any website off the ground. You have to be able to send traffic to your site in one way or another in order to get paid, and that is not always an easy thing to do. In order to get started, there are a few things that I would definitely suggest.
First of all, you need to be incredibly active on social media. You ought to set up Facebook and twitter accounts associated with the name of your blog so that you can post content from your blog to social media in order to get people to click on it. This alone will go a long way in getting people to your website so that advertisers will want to do business with you. You need to have a healthy number of followers in order to be able to do this, though, and so it is essential that you build your follower base on both Facebook and Twitter so that people will actually see the links that you post on social media.
Once you have done this, you will likely find that you are getting more hits than you were before, and you will be able to market yourself to advertisers. You must be able to maintain heavy traffic flow, though, so I highly suggest that you constantly post new material and get the links out there on all of your social media accounts.
